Week 10: Final Submission

100 WORD STATEMENT

My project is titled "Home is where the Heart is", with the proverbial "heart" referring to the pool added as the central focus - an amenity I value in a relaxing home. The refinements to my living space design is based on enhancing the experience of the pool. The elongation of the main living quarters, additional second level mezzanine and the poolside decking loggia are all improvements that maximises the view of the pool and the living experience throughout the house. Therefore, a cohesive living environment centred around the pool is achieved through the careful selection of considered architectural features.

Week 9: Preparing for Final Submission

FINAL MODEL

Abstract stair model iteration (1:10 Scale)

Exploration of space & volumes created by planes

Model placed against reflective card to mirror the structure

Criss cross shadows created in natural lighting from vertical elements

The mirroring gives the stairs a symmetrical aesthetic

Top view showing planes of different orientation & sizes

Week 8: Communicating Materiality and choosing Materials

MODEL MAKING

Topography massing model (1:100 Scale)
Wooden buttons depicting landscaping & shrubs
Wooden matchsticks indicating dense trees

Basic massing forms indicating living space layout

Plan view under natural light where shadows enhance contour line

Topography contour layers using plastic white corflute board
Second staircase iteration with sturdier construction (1:50 Scale)

Treads & risers are remeasured accurately

Staircase in context with module
Ground floor windows lined with tracing paper and lit from within

PHOTOSHOP: MATERIALS & ENVIRONMENT

Materials: Marble, Wooden floorboards, Dark oak treads. The marble walls are selected for a high-end finish adding a sense of luxury and enhancing organic beauty through the veining. The dark oak treads and wooden floorboards on the mezzanine contrasts the light balsa wood, visually indicating a transition in space.
Materials: Corrugated roofing, Timber, Brick. On an island, these materials were chosen for their durability. The corrugated roofing is weatherproof whilst the brick and timber are insulating, enhancing the comfort of the living space.
Materials: China tiles, Subway tiles, Stainless steel panels. For the kitchen area, tiles and steel are ideal as they do not rust and can resist high temperatures. The patterned tile is contrasted with the white subway tiles to create a focal wall. The stainless steel island is for food preparation and can easily be wiped down.

FUSION 360 MATERIALS

Black chrome & pink toned coppers reflect my preference for a "girlier" colour palette.

Granite & steel mesh juxtaposes heavy vs. light as well as permanence vs malleability.

Blue pinstriped colour palette using light & dark tones to emphasise the different planes in the 3D shape.

Experimenting with the "Plaza" background to demonstrate reflectivity of chrome materials

Week 7: Iterative & Fusion 360 Model

MODEL 1: Iterative Model with an additional source of natural light at a new scale

Iterative Model (1:50 Scale) Isometric Perspective

Construction Details

Plan Perspective

Introducing light & shadow

Testing materials under natural lighting

Balsa wood appears much lighter in appearance in daylight

Tile with "water" like texture used to represent a pool

Vertical structures suggesting structural steel beams

Shaded backyard deck

The main living quarters

Stairs leading to the mezzanine

Improved Living Space Section Sketch

Materials Mood Board
(Tiles, balsa wood, sand paper x3, marbled tiles x3, metallic card, felt)

MODEL 2: Fusion 360 Model In Paper

Model net using paper, pencil & ruler for construction

Nets folded & glued together

Perspective from the back

Upgraded photography set up using black paper

The black background contrasts strongly with the white model

FUSION 360: 3D Shapes Using Initials

I experimented with 2 sets of initials to achieve the end result recorded below. Initially, I began with the letters "J", "E" & "C" but struggled to shell out the shape no matter what changes I made to the "E" in the middle. I attempted with both linear & curvilinear designs but was not successful due to the tightness of corners within the shape. My second attempt used the letter "J", "Y" & "C" and this time, the shell tool was successfully implemented at 2mm.
